Export & Customs Lead Radiology – Pittsburgh - O’Hara, PA - Hybrid

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Export & Customs Lead Radiology position is to act as US Radiology Devices Customs compliance and Export control officer for Service and Finished goods medical devices, while recommending, influencing and implementing processes to ensure compliant operations, within all US governmental policies, regulations and documentation.

You will establish compliant documentation and operations within US Radiology Devices, by observing global and local policies and sanctions, governing and executing operational procedures, as well as identifying training needs and training of all personnel.

The incumbent will be a VACC leader of Export & Customs compliance within the community, lead and coach Logistics Operations specialists and consult with work leads towards export compliance and a role model in achieving on time delivery within compliant operations, by applying processes and professionalism in regard to managing global transport, import, export – supported by US regulations.

You will provide constantly improved integrated compliance framework consisting of: processes, controls/audits, risk based decisions, documentation, trouble shooting, as well as an external compliance control system for service providers and customs brokers.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate the customs & export work area of US Radiology Medical Devices, such as:

  • Creation, Monitoring and validation of Export documents;
  • Document legalization and approval management with authorities;
  • Raising awareness of customs compliance issues;
  • Manage and lead exceptional ad hoc situations., Resolve issues and support troubleshooting in daily operations;
  • Supporting on the validation of external partners, monitoring GTS system;
  • Escalation function for GTS issues, HS codes, re-classification of materials;
  • Manage Import streams and supporting  customs clearance;
  • Empowered to hold, block or return shipments in case of unresolved compliance;

Training:

  • Staying up to date with US requirements for export, and necessary documents, licenses, etc. to support the global exports;
  • Provide training to the organization to raise a high level of customs and export knowledge and risk awareness;
  • Keep track of training needs and gaps, to govern the knowledge process;

Controls:

  • Regular checks and self-audits of compliance related processes in global Radiology business;
  • Install controls to avoid incompliant situations, especially where the operational process needs manual supporting work next to GTS system (e.g. Manual checks for Sanctioned Party list screening and material classification for export control and manual review of Letters of Credit requirements and banks;
  • Coordinate internal and external audits with zero compliance findings;

Process design for customs and export processes:

  • Process steps, responsibilities, and collaboration between stakeholders;
  • Assist with implementing corrective actions following internal audits;

License management:

  • For business or general licenses in export control, continuously keep up to date;
  • Make sure the business activities and customer demands are in line with licenses;
  • Providing letters, end use documents, and supporting approval documents;
  • Alignment calls for exceptional export control situations;
  • Alignment of export clarification topics, license application for export approval.

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diplomatic, persuasive, ability to establish relationships across the organization;
  • Must consistently demonstrate knowledge beyond his/her area of assignment and be recognized as a knowledgeable technical information source;
  • Demonstrated education & experience in a regulated export customer operations environment;
  • Expertise in US regulations with proven experience in compliant export shipping documentation generation;
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written / verbal communications skills are required, with a high level of professionalism in dealing with the scope of a global customer base in a constantly changing environment;
  • Proficiency in negotiations and technical problem solving is required to interact with various departments, divisions, and vendors to resolve issues and achieve goals;
  • Strong ability to see the big picture and understand the impact on the full organization.  Ability to anticipate and avoid future problems is required.  The ability to think and act strategically is essential;
  • Must have the ability to work closely with Internal customs experts (BITS, ITCC) to help them understand the business requirements in developing legal working documents within Bayer entities and Third parties;
  • Must exhibit the following behavioral characteristics: Energetic, Self-reliance, Assertiveness, Risk-taking/accountability, Team Player, Analytical, Supervisory Skills, Motivator for other team members;
  • High level of experience in SAP MM and SD modules.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree or above.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $81,503.00 to $122,254.00.  Additional compensation may include a bonus or incentive compensation (if relevant).  Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.. 

This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
